Young Electric Sign Company designs and builds custom signs - whether for Las Vegas Spectaculars or a routed sign at an Inn in Jackson, Wyoming. The September issue of the Yescozette, the oversize publication we produce for YESCO, is on the subject of "contrast". Interior, exterior, high or low, illuminated or not, we photographed signs all over the western United States and contrasted the diverse capabilities of the company.

The 10" x 14" full color periodical is created for YESCO customers and employees. We design and direct the photography, writing and printing of the publication.

"Utah Architecture Comes of Age" is the subject of the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects' annual conference on September 19. A geographically-inspired building illustrates the theme in a brochure we designed to promote the event. The whimsical nature of the design concept was admired, yet caused repeated peer review before publication; surely an indication of a thought-provoking solution. The design will also be applied to conference materials distributed at the conference.

No one will fault Thomas Electric for moving too often. Our next-door neighbor, a third-generation, family-owned business has been located in the adjacent building since 1915. They shovel our walks -- we did 'em a logo. (Well...there was a little money involved.) We avoided a contemporary, corporate look and instead capitalized on the longevity of the company and peoples' natural interest in electric motors. We researched old electricity instruction manuals and shot photos in the company storage yard for inspiration.

Branding a cow with an 8man logo wasn't easy (Kellie chased her for hours), but for our new promotional postcard, we wanted to call attention to a new Case Study on the modern8 website. NIC, who manages more eGovernment services than any provider in the world, has concluded the five-step branding process known as 5d-Discover, Distill, Depict, Design, and Deploy-used by modern8 to implement a Perception Branding program. 5d is the process by which the brand becomes a physical presence. The NIC Case Study analyzes in detail, the problems and solutions in the comprehensive branding overhaul, showing before and after images.

Trade advertising for NIC, the world's largest provider of Web-enabled government services, promotes the viability of the self-funded model for budget-strapped states seeking eGovernment portals. The creative solution, the second of three in a series, features custom photography that relates to the bumpy economic signs of state government forecasts.
Peer appreciation always makes you feel better about the lousy economy. Print, the New York-based graphic design magazine has recognized modern8 for the promotion we produced for the Utah Advertising Federation last year. The portfolio sample will be reproduced in the September/October issue of the magazine. / The website we designed and programmed for Dunn Associates was noted and linked in the online designer's resource Brainfuel for Designers.
