![]() The electronic components of signs are a remarkably complex and powerful part of today’s sign industry, dramatically expanding the capabilities and effectiveness of the medium. Based in Las Vegas, the Electronics Division of Young Electric Sign Company designs and manufactures exterior electronic display products. Just off the press is a 16-page brochure, created by modern8, which outlines the capabilities and exhibits a portfolio of YESCO electronic signs installed throughout the Western United States. We designed, wrote and directed photography and printing of the 8.5 x 11 publication. ![]() We have created a new marketing collateral template for Utah Interactive, the company behind Utah.gov., the official state web portal. The format consists of a pre-printed masthead and software template to give employees easy-to-use product collateral in a just-in-time digital format that can be implemented, updated and printed in-house for immediate use. The masthead was pre-printed on stock suitable for later customization and reproduction on their computer printers. The template coordinates with the pre-printed masthead and is customizable for different products. The solution provides the advantages of in-house control together with a strong brand presence. Randall Smith, modern8 creative director, spent a week in Colorado at the Image, Space, Object workshop sponsored by the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and the internationally recognized design educators Michael and Katherine McCoy, of High Ground Design. The workshop format taught participants collaborative methods for multi-disciplinary design that included interior and environmental design, furniture and object design, interactive media and visual communications. / Our office, just down the street from Gateway, has room available for shared office space, with all the equipment, connections and conveniences in place. ![]() If you wear a different shirt in the morning than in the evening, or you act differently at different times of the day, you’re still the same person. People still recognize you. Brands are the same. As branding consultant, Marty Neumeier says, “Business is a process, not an entity. Successful businesses are those that continually adapt to changes in the marketplace, the industry, the economy and the culture.” Corporate identity declarations from the past prized uniformity and consistency. Today, brands favor a more dynamic approach that may not be perfectly consistent, as long as the brand personality and attributes are uniform. When brands are more human, mistakes and all, they’re more likeable.
The local restaurant chain, Barbacoa Mexican Grill, recently engaged us for
branding consultation and identity development, prior to franchising the
successful concept. Barbacoa, established in 1998, has built a loyal following
for its signature burrito served quickly in an unpretentious atmosphere. The
tagline “Common Sense Food” grew out of modern8’s Perception Branding process
and positions the restaurant fare as simple, consistent, guilt-free food at a
nice price. Menus, stationery and business cards have implemented the new
identity and we’re working on a website and store graphics.
