Trade advertising for NIC, the world’s largest provider of Web-enabled
government services, promotes the viability of the self-funded model for
budget-strapped states seeking eGovernment portals. The creative solution,
one of three in a series, features custom photography of traffic signs and
signals along with headline tie-ins. modern8 not only creates advertising
for the Kansas City based company, but has recently re-branded and
re-positioned the company to reflect the brand attributes, the Brand Promise
and the target audience.

In a unique sales incentive program,
Young Electric Sign Company has for years awarded their top sales people a
leather bomber jacket. In a style right out of the WWII era, the jacket is
adorned with embroidered patches designed by modern8. Each patch is created to
reflect the annual vacation destination for those who qualify for MDC, the
Million Dollar Club. This year’s patch featured the mission-style Santa Barbara
airport with an illustration by Maralee Lassiter, modern8 Senior Designer.

Salt Lake
photographer, Michael Schoenfeld, asked modern8 to design a new identity and
apply it to stationery and business cards. The simple typographic treatment of
the last name aids in pronunciation. Complementing the wood-type style
typography, the business cards were printed by letterpress, the now uncommon
printing technology originated during the Renaissance by Gutenberg. Printed on
very heavy cover stock, the pressure of the letterpress process slightly
embosses the card.
