We've again added to the website we created for ABC three years ago, by creating a web-based solution that not only provides typical application information, but allows the user to scan their computer from within their web browser, select and upload their resume. Check out the website. And if you know how to lay concrete... hey, they're hiring. one of the more unusual sales incentive programs around. Yet the sales representatives at Young Electric Sign Company covet them. ![]() ![]() Rational, left-brained thinking dominates the business world. Unfortunately, there is a cultural distrust for creativity and a belief that rational thinking is the only thinking you can trust. Perhaps that explains why so few of the thousands of marketing messages we receive every day actually touch our emotions. It's typically the fault of execution, not strategy. Execution - i.e. creativity - is the most difficult part of the branding mix to control. And yet it's the magic of creativity, not logic, that ignites passion in customers. Creative thinking depends more on the "illogical" skills of intuition and insight and should be trusted more. Creatively trained individuals who can contribute to a company through their background and method of working should be included in business decisions. Most business functions focus on what is, whereas creativity focuses on what could be. Innovation, so revered in the business world today, is nothing more than the realization of creative ideas. As the nation moves toward a "knowledge-based economy", idea generation is becoming crucial to the survival of companies. Thus, creativity will be a central concern of business in the near future. In 1886 John Wanamaker, the founder of the modern department store, said, "I
know half the money I spend on advertising is wasted, I just don't know which
half." That sentiment of uncertainty has changed little 117 years later. When a
business spends money enhancing image and credibility and promoting products and
services, it's a business decision based on return on investment. And it
shouldn't be otherwise.
