![]() ![]() Almost no successful brands do it alone. In addition to your executive support and internal marketing departments, branding programs require independent consultants, agencies, public relations firms, designers, and so on. There are three basic models for managing brand collaboration: 1) the internal marketing team, 2) outsourcing to a one-stop shop and 3) outsourcing to a brand agency. In the first model, you develop an integrated, internal marketing team that retains stewardship for the brand, with the freedom to select outside specialist firms to work with you. One drawback: it requires and exceptionally strong and talented internal team to run it. You can outsource to a one-stop shop, which is a single multi-disciplinary firm that offers brand strategy, research, creative services, web design, PR, etc. under one roof. This offers ease of management but cedes stewardship of the brand. With the brand agency model, you work with a lead agency, which helps assemble a team of specialist firms to work on the brand. With the brand agency leading the project, the message can be unified across all media and you have the freedom to work with "best-of-breed" specialists. Stewardship of the brand still resides more with the brand agency than with you. modern8 employs the brand agency model, directing brand efforts while collaborating with others. The brand message, "The people behind eGovernment" was
visually reinforced in the 2003 annual report for NIC, who manage more
government online services than any provider in the world. The cover and five
case studies each featured photos of a government partner in front with NIC
employees behind. Alabama was on the cover. Utah and four other states were
highlighted on the inside. The 32 page, perfect bound document delivered a
persuasive marketing message together with financials that reflected strong
performance. Maralee Lassiter, modern8 senior designer designed the report, with
art direction by Randall Smith, creative director.
