Announcing modern8

No more Smith Sligting Partners. (No more partners, for that matter.) No more Randall Smith Associates. No more names in the name. Announcing modern8. Same phone, same place, same people (unless your name is Sligting), same great design - both print and interactive, but a new name that doesn't require spell checks.

With Randall Smith as Creative Director, and a team of employees that go back as many as seven years, modern8 is the modern name for a company that has a lot of experience, but doesn't want to call attention to names. We recognize that graphic design is a collaborative process between clients and all employees, all contributing to successful solutions.

The modern8 logo retains the familiar chrome yellow, but adds a new color and a symbol, affectionately known as the "Eight Man". Watch for the Eight Man to appear on business cards, T-shirts, signs and other unexpected places.

Tara Smith, unaware of the current trend for numbered names, dreamed up the designation modern8. She was looking for something that sounded like "modern art". No one had the name on the World Wide Web (or in the State of Utah). After a couple weeks consideration, it stuck.

Yescozette

Since 1998, we've designed and directed the photography, writing and printing of Young Electric Sign Company's (YESCO) publication for customers and employees, known as the Yescozette.

The look and feel of the Yescozette is changed with each issue to reflect the content and imagery associated with the chosen theme. The current issue addresses the importance of customer service and maintenance. We photographed and interviewed YESCO customers throughout the West about their experiences regarding customer service and designed the issue around their responses.
Special Issue of Utah Business
Our firm was recently selected to design a special issue of Utah Business Magazine. In conjunction with the Utah State Division of Community and Economic Development, the magazine is a yearlong annual issue devoted to promoting the business climate of the state throughout the nation. The publication will receive prominent attention during the Winter Olympics. Watch for the publication to hit the news stands in January.

ABC Website
We just uploaded the new web site for ABC or Associated Brigham Contractors at www.abc-concrete.com. The web site is the most recent in a number of projects for ABC that include a new logo, stationery and a new corporate capabilities brochure with project-specific inserts.

New Employee
A new designer, Kyle Iman, recently joined modern8 with abilities in both traditional and interactive design. Kyle graduates in a few months from the University of Utah graphic design program. He work experience includes Senergy and the LDS Church Graphic Design Department.
