![]() The pre-cast concrete industry typically produces commodity products with low margins. Verti-Crete is turning that concept on end with the technology to create panel and post systems for privacy walls and fences. The results mimic costly stone masonry, but with quick installation and affordability. In keeping with the company identity we created earlier this year, we designed the three-fold Verti-Crete brochure to show off the product and describe the benefits of the system. ![]() Already recognized with a first place award in the website category, our client Dunn Associates, a Salt Lake City-based structural engineering firm, was surprised to learn their website had also received the Best of Show designation, making it the top award winner across 18 categories. National media representatives determined the honor for the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Marketing Communications Awards Program, which recognizes excellence in marketing communications by professional service firms. modern8 designed and programmed the website last year. Ronald H. Dunn, owner of Dunn Associates, said of the award, "It's an honor. They recognized that we have incorporated a completely different approach on our web site; it's not just an advertising medium, but a tool for our clients to download information that streamlines the procurement and design processes." |
![]() Appealing form is an important part of marketing. But aesthetics is only one reason we choose a particular book, read an ad, or linger on a website. Our choices have to fit our way of viewing the world. Radical departures from the norm are difficult to accept. And yet different stands out. New ideas are often introduced incrementally, so that users acclimate it into their worldview. Famed industrial designer, Raymond Lowey coined the term MAYA: Most Advanced Yet Acceptable solution. Creative professionals search for MAYA solutions. Although no one has a monopoly on creativity, professionals trained in creative thinking have a great deal to contribute to the corporate environment. Most business functions focus on what is, whereas designers focus on what could be. Marketing can list what customers want, usually based on what is all ready there. Designers are capable of producing ideas that no customers would come up with in the normal course of researching them. This is possible because designers conceive of what people will want in the future, rather than what they want now.
Barbacoa Mexican Grill, the local restaurant chain for whom we recently
completed a branding makeover, has launched a new website complete with online
ordering. Justin Milo, modern8 designer/programmer created the site to
strengthen the brand position of "Common Sense Food" while providing the
convenience of web-based take out orders. The order shows up as a fax at any of
the four Salt Lake Barbacoa locations, where your food will be ready on arrival.
Established in 1998, Barbacoa has built a loyal following for its signature
burrito served quickly in an unpretentious atmosphere.
